Founder and Principal

 

Suttiwan Cox, former ESOL teacher in DeKalb and Gwinnett Counties, Georgia, has been an educator for over 30 years. She is in the Georgia Teacher Hall of Fame. She was a 2000 Georgia Teacher of the Year finalist and the 1999 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year, and is a Milken Educator. She was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to serve on the Education Reform Study Commission in 1999 and 2000. Suttiwan Cox has an M.A. in English and M.Ed. (Leadership/Business Administration) and a 2009-2010 class graduate of Georgia Education Policy Fellowship Program.

 

CFO

 

Mrs. S Thepchatri is a Thai national and has lived in Atlanta for 8 years. She received her bachelor's degree from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Later, she received an MBA from Mercer University and earned another MBA focusing on Taxation from Georgia State. Mrs. Sue works in the PATH administration office overseeing the school's financial accounts and payroll as well as teaching 5th grade math. She enjoys monitoring the stock market and eating frozen yogurt on her spare time.

 

Assistant Principal

 

Mrs. Z Harvey earned her English BA from Central University, Master of Divinity from Payne Theological Seminary. She has over 20 years varied teaching experience: Elementary School, Middle School/Junior High School English, High School English, Jr. College Business English Seminary Homiletics I and Con Ed I & II. She was featured Who’s Who in College and universities 1994 & 1996. She is also a TESA graduate. Her educational awards include Taylor Business Institute Director of Education Award, Chicago, IL 1982. Teacher of the Year and Excellence in Education Award, Greene County, Ohio 1992, and 2009 Star Teacher of PATH. She is a member of Member Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Mr. G Balch a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont with a B.A. in environmental studies and received an MBA in leadership from The Wharton School in Pennsylvania. Balch served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala and worked for several years in business before deciding to teach at Grady High School in the Atlanta Public Schools where he won the Atlanta Families Award for Excellence. Balch and his wife Simone have two daughters, Sierra who is three and Hadley who is one.

 

 

 

Counselors

 

Ms. S Singer is our school counselor at PATH Academy.  She earned her B.S. in Psychology and English from Loyola Marymount University and her M.S. from California State University, Northridge in Educational Psychology and Counseling,  with an emphasis in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy.   Ms. Singer began her mental health career in 1986 in Los Angeles.  She has worked with children, teens, adults, families and the elderly in a variety of settings including group homes, hospitals, clinics, juvenile corrections and in-home social work.  She has two years of teaching experience in Special Education.   Ms. Singer taught literacy as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in the Eastern Caribbean, and learned Spanish in Mexico and Costa Rica.

 

 

R. Heard is a native of Atlanta, Ga. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from West Georgia University and her M.Ed in Guidance Counseling from Cambridge College in 2010. Ms. Heard worked at Babb Middle School in Forest Park, Ga. and served as a graduation coach from 2005-2008 and as a Parent/Community Liaison from 2008-2011. Due to her extensive involvement with parents and community leaders in the county, She was asked along with other liaisons to revise the Parental Handbook of Clayton County Public Schools. Ms. Heard loves authentic Mexican dishes, spicy foods, spending time with her children, and finding cheap ways to have fun with the family.

 

 

Staff

Mr. P Medley was born in High Point, North Carolina and earned a B.A. in human relations from High Point University where he was a captain and standout member of the Panther basketball program. Mr. Medley has served as a Director of Boys & Girls Clubs in Richmond, Va, High Point, NC, and Atlanta. Mr. Medley has also served as a Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Mr. Medley enjoys cooking, traveling, cultural events, and serving as a volunteer.He has taught Health and Physical Education at PATH for the past six years.

 

Ms. D McCombs attended Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts and holds a B.S. in Community Development from Georgia State University. She received her Masters in Education from American Intercontinental University. McCombs has used her determination to become a seasoned and successful teacher. She considers teaching as a calling from GOD. Her compassion for children is the fire that helps her to teach her students not only Language Arts but also how to become better people by being kind and tolerate of others. In 2009, she was honored to represent PATH as its’ 2009 Teacher of the Year. Ms. McCombs is a life long learner and has completed an endorsement in Reading and ESOL in 2011. This is Ms. McCombs’ eighth year at PATH Academy.

 

Mr. A Langley was born in Georgia and has had a lifelong love of music that started with piano lessons in the 2nd Grade. He was drawn to computers at an early age and attended Southern Polytechnic State University where he graduated in 1989 with a BS in Computer Science. After graduation he spent the next 11 years writing banking software. After the technology bubble burst he changed careers and has been a music teacher for PATH since its inception in 2002. He also teaches computer science and typing. He recently completed his Master of Education in School Library Media and is currently working in the school's Media Center.

 

Mrs. T. Hannah is a native of Atlanta, GA. She earned a B.S. degree in mathematics from Georgia Southern University and her masters degree in education with a concentration in technology from Troy State University. Mrs. Hannah believes in setting high expectations because she feels that all students can succeed. In her free time, she loves cooking, reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time with her family.

 

Mrs. D Earnest is a native of Tampa, Florida. She received her bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and her masters degree in mathematics education from Boston College. Mrs. Earnest teaches 7th grade math. Ms. Earnest is the 2009-10 PATH Academy Teacher of the Year.

 

 

Mr. J Stein graduated with a double major from the University of Georgia ni Spanish and in International Business.  While growing up, he lived in Ecuador for almost 3 years where he first learned to Speak Spanish.  After working in the mortgage industry for almost 4 years he began teaching here at PATH.  He finishes his Masters Degree in Secondary Education in September of 2011.  Outside of school you may find him dancing salsa at a local dance studio or salsa event.

 

Ms. B Caleb hails from Guyana, South America and is a product of the Dekalb County School System.  Because of her transition as an elementary student, she identifies with the school's mission statement and can understand the betwixt & between cultural, social, and developmental transition that is needed and occurs for both students and their families.  PATH she says is a "glove fit" and is delighted to join this diverse community.

 

Ms. R Elms has lived in Atlanta for ten years, originally as a student at Oglethorpe University, then as a therapeutic foster care supervisor and now as a teacher. In the past year she has been completing graduate work in Educational Psychology at Georgia State University. She is now teaching fifth grade Social Studies while working on a thesis that measures the effects of multicultural education on ethnic identity development.

 

 

Mr. M Dana earned his Master of Music degree from Valdosta State University.He teaches music at PATH and instructs The Percussion Club. He has performed with the Valdosta, Albany,Columbus, and Savannah Symphony Orchestras. He also has performed locally with his jazz group the Michael Dana Group. He also teaches percussion at the Atlanta Music Academy and at LaGrange College. Mr. Dana enjoys reading, golf, tennis, and spending time with his wife, Amanda, and his cats, Pearl, Olive, Widdle, and Gnocchi.

 

Ms. E Peyton is currently in her second year at PATH, and her fifth year teaching at various schools around Georgia. She has degrees in English and English Education from UGA, the greatest school in the country. In the rare hours she isn't teaching or grading papers, Mrs. Peyton enjoys cooking, eating, taking her dog for walks, eating, reading, and eating.

 

 

Mrs. E. Ouimette came to the United States in 2003 as a student exchange program participant. In 2007, she obtained a B.A. degree in Organizational Management with concentration in Mathematics. In 2010, she received her Master's Degree in Teaching Secondary Mathematics from Columbus State University. Mrs. Ouimette joined PATH Academy in 2008 as a Physical Science teacher. Since then, she taught 8th grade Physical Science and 7th and 8th grade Mathematics. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, cooking and reading. This year she is also learning to be a first time mom to her baby boy.

 

Ms. M Warner was born in Bangkok, Thailand. She graduated from Brenau University in Gainsvilles, Georgia with B.S. in Biology. She is now teaching 7 th grade Life Science. She recieved Master degree in teaching Science and Math . She enjoy travel and cooking.

 

 

Ms. V Mitchell was born in Denver, Colorado and has lived in Atlanta for 13 years. She graduated from Emory University with a B.S in psychology. In 2009 she received her M. A. in non- profit management and social policy from Georgia State University. She teaches 8th grade social studies and special education classes at PATH. Ms. Mitchell wakes up every morning excited to come to PATH. In her spare time she enjoys reading and sleeping.

 

 

Ms. T Lester grew up in Denver, Colorado and attended Colorado State University, where she received her B.S. in zoology. She has worked in zoos and wildlife preserves with a variety of species but mainly focused on Western Lowland Gorillas, which she worked with for six years, Therefore, her main passion is animals and life science, as well as earth conservation. In her free time she enjoys salsa dancing and learning other types of dance as well.

 

Ms. C Wu attended Georgia State University and received a B.A in accounting. She also earned her M. Ed. from Mercer University . Ms.Wu taught Chinese for five years before she joined PATH in 2008. Outside the math classes she may be found swimming laps at the pool. She has been swimming since she was 5 years old in the rivers of Taiwan.

 

 

Mr. R Lander an Atlanta native, graduated with a BBA in finance from Georgia State University. After a successful career in Operations Management, Mr. Lander completed The Teacher Institute at The Galloway School and North Georgia College and State University. He is certified in Middle School Science. He was a National Finalist in 2009 for the Leaders In Learning Award from the National Cable Association for his leadership and creativity in the classroom! His extensive coaching experience in both baseball and basketball led to his becoming a teacher. In his spare time, Mr. Lander enjoys sports, travel, reading, gardening, and spending time with his family. He looks forward to helping the students to be successful both at PATH and after their time in middle school!

 

Mr. V Martinez was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and obtained his B.S in Civil Engineering. He has been a friend to Path Academy for a long time. He worked in the construction industry for two years and has decided to return to PATH Academy to teach physical science. He is an adventure seeker and lover of the outdoors. He likes education and hopes to motivate students to like school.

 

Ms. L Southworth teaches 5th grade Social Studies and Math. She was born in Philadelphia and attended Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she recieved her B.A. in Urban Studies. She is currently finishing up her Masters in the Art of Teachnig at Oglethorpe University. This is her second year teaching at PATH. Before coming to PATH, Ms. Southworth taught elementary, middle and high school students in Philadelphia, Providence and the Dominican Republic.

 

Ms. T Deanon was born in the Philippines but grew up in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. She received her Bachelor's from The University of Georgia in Middle School Education specializing in Language Arts and Social Studies. Currently, she is working on her Master's from Georgia State University in Reading Education specializing in ESOL. Her teaching experiences consist of teaching ESOL in Costa Rica and The Netherlands. As a 2nd year 7th grade Language Arts teacher in PATH Academy, Ms. Deanon loves sharing her passion of reading, writing, words, and grammar with her students!

 

Ms. K Logue is a native Georgian excited to be teaching 6th grade Social Studies at PATH. She graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University with a B.A. in history and a minor in political science. She loves to travel and has visited Mexico and a number of European countries. Ms. Logue also loves to read, cook, listen to music, attend local art festivals, and ride her mountain or road bike. She worked as a substitute at PATH for the past two years, and has greatly enjoyed the experience.

 

Mrs. J Morgan lived in China for the first 18 years of her life before moving to the United States to go to college. She attended Appalachian State University where she received a B.S. in Special Education. While teaching in North Carolina she earned her ESOL teaching license from N.C. State University, as well as her National Board Certification. After five years in the public school system, she relocated to Atlanta to teach at PATH Academy. Mrs. Morgan enjoys being outside, cooking and traveling when she is not at school.

 

DR. K Shrout was born in St. Louis, Missouri and lived in Atlanta for 13 years. She earned her Ph.D. from Emory in 2010 and her master’s degree from Berkeley in 2001. She has had many diverse experiences, including working with middle school students on a historic sailing ship on the San Francisco Bay, making a documentary film that played at the Sundance Film Festival, and teaching at the university level for several years. She loves to read, to write nonfiction and fiction, and to talk about films and television. In her spare time, she goes hiking with her husband and her two daughters.

 

Ms. K. Learnard is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia where she majored in Spanish and International Affairs. After graduating, she took a year off before returning to school to pursue her Master’s of Education with a specialization in English Education and ESOL at the University of Florida. She teaches Language Arts. This is her first year teaching, and she is thrilled to be working with the wonderful faculty and students here at PATH.

 

Ms. A. Dukes graduated Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education from Alabama State University on May 9, 2009. She is currently working on her Master’s in Education at the University of West Alabama. Ms. Dukes has worked the last two years as an educator for the Bibb County Public Schools in Macon, Georgia where she served as the Science Lab teacher for grades 1-5 in 2009-2010 and a 4th grade math teacher in 2010-2011. Her philosophy states, “I believe that every child can learn, and I will instill the love of learning in every child.” Ms. Dukes enjoys reading, traveling, and sporting events.

 

Mr. A Lettich earned his Masters of Arts in Teaching from Georgia State University, focusing in Language Arts and Social Studies. A New York native, he has lived in Georgia for the past 16 years. He currently teaches Social Studies at PATH. This is his first year teaching, and is excited to work with all the teachers and students at PATH. When not teaching, Mr. Lettich enjoys traveling, cooking, and swimming.
